What is
Awana?
Awana is an international youth program offered by Arapaho Road
Baptist Church as a positive influence in the development of young
people. The Awana name is derived from an idea in the Bible found in
II Timothy 2:15 which reads, "Approved Workmen Are
Not Ashamed."

Why
Awana?
The purpose of Awana is stated best in the pledge to the Awana flag,
"I pledge allegiance to the Awana flag, which stands for the Awana
Clubs, whose goal is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of
Christ, and train them to serve Him."

What do Awana Clubs teach?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Everyone is a sinner (Romans 3:23) and in
God's eyes deserves eternal punishment in hell (Romans 6:23,
Revelation 20:15). But Jesus Christ, God's Son, paid the penalty for
our sin when He was crucified and died on the cross (Romans 5:8; 1
Corinthians 15:3-4). If we trust Jesus Christ as our personal Savior,
we receive God's gift of eternal life in heaven. John 3:16 says, "For
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life." Salvation is a free gift; we cannot buy it or earn it by doing
good works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Instead we must simply accept it. Each
child and leader must understand this important message, for it is
what our Awana Clubs teach and the reason for their existence.

Why should my kids
attend?
Awana offers sound Biblical instruction, scripture memory, organized
games, great Christian Fellowship, and awards for completing scripture
verses and good sportsmanship.

When does ACRC Awana meet & what do they do?
Everyone meets at 6:30 pm weekly on Thursday evenings at ACRC. The
clubbers will gather together and board the vehicle which leaves ACRC
by 6:35pm to arrive at Fair Haven Bible Chapel by 7:00pm. The 1 hour
and 45 minute club ends at 8:45pm and clubbers return back to ACRC by
9:30pm. Weekly meetings for kindergarten - 8th grades begin with a
flag ceremony followed by different clubs participating in all of
three segments of the Awana club: an exciting Game Period, Handbook
Time which allows personal clubber and leader interaction as young
people study and achieve in Bible study, memorization, and activities
and Council Time which includes songs, Bible lessons, special events
and announcements.

What can my child
achieve through Awana?
The children are recognized for their achievements in working through
their handbooks. Awards, which are worn on the uniform, are presented
weekly for finishing portions of each handbook. Handbooks are
designed so the average child can finish a book in a single club year.
Major Awana Awards
These awards are given out in a ceremony at the end of the Awana year.
Each shows consistent, diligent work over the course of the year.
Encourage your child to work steadily; it will bring rewards -- and
not just trophies!
-
First Handbook
Ribbons are awarded in all clubs for the completion of the first
handbook.
-
Second Handbook
Sparks receive a larger ribbon for the completion of two consecutive
handbooks.
-
Sparky Award
All Sparks who complete all three Sparks handbooks receive a plaque
plus a pin to wear on their uniform. This pin may also be worn on
their uniform when they graduate to the next Awana Club.
-
Excellence Trophy
This trophy is awarded upon the completion of two handbooks
(Third-12th Grade).
-
Third Book Award
This award is awarded upon completion of any three handbooks
(Third-12th Grade).

(Third-12th Grade).
-
Meritorious Award
This trophy is awarded to clubbers who complete six
handbooks.(Third-12th Grade).
-
Citation Award
This is the highest award that can be earned in Awana! Awarded to
graduating seniors (or higher) upon completion of all 10 third-
through 12th grade Awana handbooks/manuals.
Sparks and Truth & Training Girls receive "Awana shares" for various
reasons: attendance, wearing uniform, sections completed, etc. The
Awana store is located in various areas of the Worship Center Building
and is open once a month at the end of the club night. Clubbers may
use their Awana shares to purchase things from the Awana store.
Truth & Training Boys have a monthly raffle drawing. Clubbers earn
raffle tickets for completing sections in their handbooks and these
raffle tickets are put into a container. Once a month the leaders draw
the tickets for the right to pick a prize from the various prizes. A
clubber can only win one prize per drawing.

What does it cost?
Dues
Dues
are used to cover the operation expenses including necessary
equipment, materials, incentives, awards, contests, etc. The dues
vary from club to club. See the Chart below for dues for your club.
Handbooks
The first Entrance Book is free. If needed, replacements are
available for $.25. Upon completion of the Entrance Booklet, a
one-year club handbook is required to continue the program. Clubbers
are encouraged to write their names in ink on their handbooks to
prevent misplacement or loss at club meetings.
Uniforms
Upon completion of the entrance booklet, a clubber is eligible to wear
the Awana uniform. We encourage each clubber to purchase and to wear
the uniform to club each week. Awana requires that a clubber must
have a uniform in order to receive the awards he has earned. Also,
team points are given at club meetings to clubbers who are in
uniform. Uniforms may be purchased when child is eligible.
Sparks
- $.50/week Dues, $13 Uniform, $10 Handbook
Truth & Training - $.50/week Dues, $15 Uniform, $10 Handbook
Trek - $.50/week Dues, $10 Handbook
Dues are collected during each club meeting. If Clubber is going
into a new club, they will need to purchase a new book. If they are
continuing in a club, they do not need to purchase a new book until
they have finished their prior book. Uniforms are purchased when they
enter a new club. Keep that in mind when choosing a size (For
example, a Spark who enters Kindergarten this year will wear their
uniform until they complete the 2nd grade.)
